JOUR 102 ONL - Surviving Social Media
Offers students a comprehensive understanding of the role that big tech companies and their platforms and products play in daily life. Topics include hashtag activism, digital surveillance, algorithmic inequality and search bias, data privacy, monopoly and anti-trust, changes to the news industry, and the "internet yuck" of hate speech and harassment. Students will be required to take a 24-hour technology fast. Course Information: Credit not given for JOUR 102 if credit already received for JOUR 199 section "Social Media".
Credit is not given for JOUR 102 Surviving Social Media if credit for JOUR 460 Social Media Theory & Practice (SP CRN: 69111; FA CRN: 70564), JOUR 199 Social Media (FA CRN: 71726), or JOUR 199 Social Media Big Tech & Society (SP CRN: 51035) has been earned.
