Special preparation in specialized fields of musicology, composition-theory, performance, and music education. Course Information: 0 to 4 undergraduate hours. 0 to 4 graduate hours. Approved for Letter and S/U grading. May be repeated to a maximum of 16 hours. Prerequisite: Senior or graduate standing in music or music education; consent of instructor.
Special Instructions:
-Hip Hop, Schooling, and Music Education.- This course explores Hip-Hop scholarship, media, and musicianship focusing primarily on music teaching and learning as it occurs in and out of school contexts. Students will gain introductory understandings of Hip-Hop history and culture, engagements of Hip-Hop culture in school settings, and contemporary socio-cultural and sociopolitical issues in Hip-Hop. Students will also create original Hip-Hop music employing idiomatic tools and processes.
