Intensive study of the music of a specific historical period. Course Information: 3 undergraduate hours. 3 graduate hours. May be repeated to a maximum of 12 hours. Prerequisite: MUS 313 and MUS 314, junior standing in music or consent of instructor.
Special Instructions:
TOPIC: "Music and the Middle Ages." No, the Middle Ages were not all dark, and chant was not the only music created in the period! Focusing primarily on secular music styles, this course is designed to provide an in-depth survey of the artistic, cultural, and musical practices of Medieval Europe, as well as some curious revivals of the medieval aesthetic in 20th century popular culture.
