Seminar and directed individual investigation of selected problems or regions; designed to develop ability to conduct independent investigation. Scheduled seminars are detailed in each term's Class Schedule. Course Information: Approved for both letter and S/U grading. May be repeated.
River systems throughout the world are increasingly being affected by human modification of the environment. These effects are particularly acute in intensively managed landscapes. This course will examine how intensive management is influencing geomorphic, biogeochemical, and ecological characteristics of river systems. It will use the National Science Foundation's Critical Zone Collavorative Network as a framework for exploring current research on rives in IMLs. The focus will be on river systems in the Midwest, but systems from other environments will also be considered.
