May be repeated to a maximum of 6 hours. Prerequisite: Junior or senior standing; consent of instructor and head of department prior to advance enrollment and registration.

Special Instructions:

This seminar takes a historical perspective on ideas about health, disease, and well-being in urban spaces. Focusing mostly on the United States and Europe from the nineteenth-century we will study the ways that modern ideas about urbanization and landscapes intersected with developments in medicine, public health, thinking about the body, and conceptions of health and quality of life.
