GLBL 350 A - Poverty in a Global Context

Examines global poverty in the context of international development debates an practice. Despite global commitments (for example, the Millennium Development Goals), decades of research, and new and innovative policies, the "solution" to widespread and lasting poverty alleviation remains elusive. Class will define poverty and how it is measured, considered who is poor and why some people are more vulnerable to the negative effects of poverty than others, and examine what causes some countries to remain poor. Course Information: Prerequisite: GLBL 250 or consent of instructor.
