What makes the difference between a good and a great park- How can we design spaces that foster social interaction, build community, encourage healthy lifestyles, and safeguard the environment- A graduate level introduction to park planning and design, this course provides an in-depth study of the theoretical framework and methodology for creating outdoor recreational spaces. Upon completion of this course, participants will better understand how land can be developed sustainably by and for people. The course is divided into three modules: 1. Understanding Parks: Design Considerations 2. An Integrated Picture: Site Inventory and Analysis 3. Application Framework: Design and Implementation.
