This course examines how issues of race, gender and sexuality are represented in information professions and will study how they affect, and are affected by, information technologies. Socially constructed (mis)representations (or lack of representations) of race, gender and sexual identity will be critically examined in different settings as they intersect, overlap, and impact the information use, technology practices, and the design of information resources and services in the library and information science and related fields. Course Information: 2 graduate hours. No professional credit. Prerequisite: Restricted to LIS graduate students.
