Conflict Resolution

All students are entitled to receive fair and reasonable treatment from faculty and academic and administrative units. Campus ombuds officers are available to investigate student complaints and help achieve equitable settlements. Issues most commonly addressed by the Ombudsperson include academic grievances, student/teacher conflicts, grade disputes, and sexual harassment and discrimination concerns.

At this time, there are Ombuds Offices on the Urbana and Chicago campuses. Full contact information for both offices is available on their Web sites.

UIS does not currently have an Ombuds Office, but is working to establish one. Questions or concerns relating to issues mentioned above may be directed to Ray Schroeder (Director of the Office of Technology-Enhanced Learning) by phone at (217) 206-7531 or by e-mail at rschr1@uis.edu.
