Georgianna,

I have attached my paper that I wrote because I’m hoping that you can look over the way I referenced my sources.  I am trying how to reference the web sites in my paper, and it doesn’t say anything about how to do that with the reference that Burks gave us or even the Writer guide that I have.  I am having a problem with the ones that don’t have an author.  Also, when seeing the comments that Burks made about the references from Dennis D.’s paper, I don’t understand why they aren’t okay.  Burks said that not enough information is put in there, but if there is no author, page, etc, there is nothing one can do about it, right?

Well, I appreciate your help!  I’m pulling out my hair with this!!

Thanks, Dawn

Hi Dawn!

I read your paper, which is good.  There were a few changes I would make, if you are interested.  I think you've done a good job with the topic.

Burks gave you the freedom to choose which reference format, right?  When I write, I prefer APA instead of MLA.  I believe it is more widely accepted and respected in the academic community.

When citing a reference in your paper, use parentheses behind the quote or reference.  For example, from a paper I wrote about Indian women:

"However, often these women are the family caregivers and main source of income. It is difficult for rural and urban poor to adapt to changing times, as their educational opportunities are minimal. (Terhune, 2003)"

It is imperative to list all the information you can find about a source.  When I listed this source on my Reference page, it looked like this:

Terhune, Lea. (1999) Counting as equals: Indian women push to stand up and be heard. ABCNews.com. World, September 17, 1999. Retrieved October 17, 2003, from http://abcnews.go.com/sections/world/DailyNews/indiawomen990910.html.

I hope this information helps.  If you do not have an author, etc., I would explain this to Burks when you submit the paper.  However, even without an author, I list the company, such as Skillsoft in your paper, who it appears has an agreement with 'Smartforce.'  You just have to dig!  I always check the credits at the bottom of a site or contact information.  Most web sites give credit to their writers, etc. somewhere in the site.

I am going to post more examples in Blackboard.  Please let me know if you have more questions!
