- a series of online training courses for faculty who want to acquire
pedagogical and technical skills needed to successfully teach their
own courses online. Available free to U of I faculty and staff.

Online Program Planning & Course Development:
External Education - Housed in Academic Affairs, External Education is the lead online support unit at UIC. Ex Ed assists with planning the development of online programs, including budgeting, instructional design for both online and blended courses, and marketing support.

|
Technical Support:
Instructional Technology Lab - free consulting, training, and access to special hardware (e.g. recording equipment) and software for UIC faculty; run by the Academic Computing and Communications Center (ACCC).
|

|
Curriculum Support:
External Education has an in-house Instructional Designer and Master Online Teacher who can assist faculty members with course redesign for both online and blended courses.
|
|
|
Council for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL), composed of faculty members who have been recognized for their demonstrated teaching excellence, provides a mechanism by which faculty, staff, and administrators can work collaboratively toward the improvement of instruction and the advancement of learning in UIC's culturally pluralistic community.

The Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) strives to enrich the learning experience at UIC by supporting the teaching efforts of faculty and teaching assistants through its various services, including Instructional Design Support, Teaching Assessment Services, and College Teaching Preparation Program for TAs.

UIC Fee-Based Support Units
Center for the Advancement of Distance Education (CADE) - part of the UIC School of Public Health, CADE collaborates with projects on and off-campus to develop online solutions to a variety of educational and business applications. This includes Web-based programming and database connectivity (e.g., active server pages, online surveys, etc.), live broadcasts of events, graphic design, animation and more. CADE will assist UIC faculty/staff in developing proposals and budgets that include these types of activities.

Engineering Media Services – Housed within the College of Engineering, the Engineering Media Services can help with a range of media solutions for course development, website development, and video services. Their range of services include video production, animated computer applications, webcasting, videoconferencing, satellite downlinks, and computer graphic design.

Office of Technology-Enhanced Learning
(OTEL) - part of the Center
for Teaching and Learning (CTL), OTEL promotes faculty use of
the Internet and allied technologies to enhance learning, scholarship
and service.

Center for Teaching
and Learning (CTL) - the CTL serves both faculty and students
at UIS. The Center supports activities that help faculty to enhance
their roles as teachers, advisers, and scholars through its programs
and workshops in writing across the curriculum, using technology
to improve classroom teaching, and incorporating diversity into
the curriculum. |

Educational
Technology -
Educational Technology provides production services in support of faculty creating
multimedia materials for use in their courses, as well as multimedia assistance
to students working on academic projects. Recent projects have included the
creation of digitized collections from 35mm slides, conversion of video presentations
to CD-ROM and DVD formats, and the creation of fully interactive multimedia
presentations.
Examples of services are:
- One-on-one consulting for exploring multimedia technologies
- Equipment and software to experiment on multimedia technologies
- Dedicated facility for faculty working on a multimedia project
- Up-to-date library of resources for multimedia tools

Urbana-based
Programs and Resources

|
Educational
Technology - training, support, and consulting for UIUC
faculty who want to integrate technology into their classes. The
CET also runs a number of high-capacity servers which host popular
course management systems (such as Mallard, WebCT, and Blackboard
CourseInfo), conferencing programs (e.g., WebBoard and FirstClass),
and other instructional applications. Most CET services are free
to UIUC faculty.

The Educational
Technologies Board - the Educational Technologies Board was
established in 1988 to advise the campus on present and future needs
and directions in computer-assisted learning. The ETB sponsors grants
programs and training workshops to advance the use of instructional
technology on the Urbana campus

The Faculty
and Staff Technology Training Team (FAST3) - formed in 1996,
FAST3 is a consortium dedicated to providing state-of-the-art training
on computers, software, and related technology for the faculty and
staff on the Urbana campus.

Services - provides information and consulting on the accessibility
of online educational materials for persons with disabilities.

Office of Instructional Resources
(OIR) - The Office of Instructional Resources is a campus-wide
service unit responsible for assisting faculty, academic units,
and teaching assistants in improving instruction. The staff consults
and advises on a wide variety of instructional issues.
