Description:
This online program strives to develop primary, secondary, and postsecondary educational leaders, administrators, and policy analysts who seek to understand and address critical P-12 and higher education issues. The program does not provide administrative licensure, but is unique in that it provides a P-20 perspective to leadership and policy issues, bringing educators from elementary and secondary institutions, community colleges, colleges, universities, and state and national education departments together to study topics of shared interest.

Students will study different educational leadership and policy practices and theories with particular focus paid to educational access, equity, and excellence.

Participants will have the opportunity to specialize in P-12 leadership and policy or in higher education and policy.

Admission Requirement(s):

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution

  • For full admission to the UIUC Graduate College: A minimum GPA of 3.0 on the 4.0 scale for the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework and for all graduate coursework

  • Three letters of recommendation

  • Resume and a personal information and experience statement that demonstrates the connection between future career goals and the Ed. M. in Educational Leadership and Policy.


  • International applicants will be required to submit additional materials, in accordance with Graduate College policies. For full consideration, all application materials must be received by June 1, 2008. Late applications will be considered if spaces remain in the cohort.



    Program Cost(s):

    The current tuition rate for the 2009-10 academic year for each 4-hour course is $2,012 (USD) and $1,006 for the 2-hour capstone course. This rate includes both tuition and fees. Reading materials are not included in these fees. The tuition rate is the same for in-state, out-of-state, and international students. The cost for future courses may be subject to moderate changes in accordance with the actions of the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.
