Course work emphasizes the analysis, implementation and ongoing management of the critical factors that impact the successful selection and use of health care information technologies. The MS in HI program is a designated "Approved Program" by CAHIIM.
The online Master of Science in Health Informatics program now offers a course-only degree option, as well as a more traditional research degree option. In addition, with supplemental coursework, graduates pursuing the research option are eligible to take the national Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential exam offered by the American Health Information Management Association. Admission Requirement(s): The admissions committee is seeking self-motivated, mature individuals who meet the following requirements:
* At least two years of experience outside the academic setting in the health care or information technology fields
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Exceptional people skills
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
The following are required for admission to the MS in Health Informatics program:
* Baccalaureate degree, no restrictions
* Minimum grade point average of 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) for the final 60 semester (90 quarter) hours of undergraduate study and for all cumulative graduate work previously taken
* International applicants whose native language is not English must pass the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Applicants who take the paper-based TOEFL MUST also take the Test of Written English (TWE). If the paper-based TOEFL is taken, minimum scores in the range of 585-600 will be considered, and scores of 5 or 6 must be submitted for the TWE. If the applicant has taken the computer-based TOEFL, minimum scores in the range of 240-250 will be considered. In addition, if the applicant has taken the computer-based TOEFL, the Test of Written English is not required. If the student has taken the TOEFL iBT, a minimum total score of 95 will be considered.
