Description:
Global Studies in Education (GSE) Online is a web-based Master's degree in Educational Policy Studies at the University of Illinois. The program is designed for educators at all levels interested in learning and thinking more critically about issues of globalization and education and in incorporating international perspectives into their curriculum and pedagogy. In addition, prospective students in other related fields are encouraged to join our program and provide fresh perspectives on these important educational topics.We welcome in particular applicants from outside the United States. This is intended to facilitate dialogue among American teachers and those living and working in other parts of the world.

This Online education program requires the completion of eight courses (32 credits), taken part-time over two years, and is structured around six themes: curriculum; educational policy; learning and classroom management; technology; identity and culture; and organizational change. Students will also have an opportunity to participate in a four-week study tour abroad, and to conduct a school-based project.

Admission Requirement(s): Students must submit the following information:

  • Completed Application for Admission to the Graduate College http://www.oar.uiuc.edu/prospective/grad/instruct.html

  • Payment of application fee ($50 for domestic students, $75 for international)

  • Official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate studies.

  • Three letters of reference.

    Minimum Configuration:

  • IBM compatible (PC) or Macintosh with 500mhz processor or faster

  • 128 MB of RAM or more

  • 400MB free hard disk space for class work and software

  • 56K Modem; preferably broadband connection (such as Cable Modem or DSL)

  • CD-ROM drive

  • Sound card with speakers and microphone

  • PC Monitor with 1024x768 resolution

  • Video card with 8MB of memory

  • Windows 2000/XP, or Macintosh OS9 or OSX operating system



  • Software Requirements
  • Microsoft Word (Preferred), or other compatible word processing programs, such as WordPerfect.

  • Microsoft PowerPoint or PowerPoint Viewer.

  • Internet access software

  • Netscape 4.0, Internet Explorer 5.0 or whatever browser you prefer to use -- Netscape 7+ and IE 6+ are recommended (basically, the latest version would work the best -- browser upgrades are always free)

  • RealOne Player (for playing audio and video clips) - FREE

  • Yahoo or AOL or MSN messenger program - FREE

  • Program Cost(s):

    Registration for the GSE courses is handled by the Office of Academic Outreach. Tuition costs and services provided to off-campus students are different from those offered to on-campus students. Tuition and fees per online course for the 2009-2010 academic year are $1,416. There is no out of state tuition. All students pay the same amount.
