Description:
The Master of Science degree in computer science is oriented toward software and is most appropriate for candidates interested in the design, analysis, and implementation of software programs.

Enrollment Capacity

The Computer Science Department will enroll 12 online graduate students each fall semester. For best consideration, students should submit application materials as early as possible prior to the semester in which they would like to attend. Contact the Online Program Coordinator for specific information.

Program Entrance Requirements

  • A minimum undergraduate grade-point average of 2.70 on a 4.00 scale is required.

  • General Graduate Record Exam (GRE) Scores.

  • Students who take the TOEFL exam must achieve a score of not less than 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) to fulfill the English proficiency requirement for admission to master's level study at UIS.


  • Prerequisites

    Prerequisites will not count toward a graduate degree and must be completed prior to acceptance.

    Admission Requirement(s): •Applicants must submit a General Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score and a complete set of official undergraduate transcripts signifying graduation from an accredited university.

    •A minimum undergraduate grade-point average of 2.70 on a 4.00 scale is required.

    •Applicants who take the TOEFL exam must achieve a score of not less than 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) to fulfill the English proficiency requirement for admission to master's-level study at UIS. Those who earned their Bachelor's Degree from a regionally-accredited institution in the United States are not required to submit TOEFL scores.

    •All official documents must arrive in the UIS Office of Admissions in an envelope sealed by the issuing institution.
