Master of Computer Science Program URL: http://cs.illinois.edu/online/academics Campus: Urbana-Champaign Number of Required Campus Visits: 0
Program Type: Master's Degree Award Conferred: Master of Computer Science Total Number of Credit Hours: 36 Sem. Hr(s). Admission Deadline: Summer or Fall: January 15; Spring: October 15 Description: The Illinois Internet Computer Science (I2CS) Program offers the on-campus Masters of Computer Science (MCS) degree completely online. The MCS degree is a professional non-thesis degree requiring 36 hours of course work.
The online option allows individuals to earn an MCS degree from a leader in information technology entirely online with no required campus visits. All students receive the same lectures, class assignments, exams, and projects as on-campus students.
Students in the online MCS degree program are awarded the exact same diploma that they would receive were they on campus. The degree requirements are the same as for the on-campus MCS program and can be found at http://cs.illinois.edu/online/academics under the Degrees tab. Off-campus students have 5 years in which to fulfill degree requirements.
Courses are offered each semester (including a summer semester). One can participate in the MCS program as either a full-time or a part-time student. Full-time students typically enroll in three courses courses per semester. If you are employed full time, you should participate as a part-time student and enroll in one course per semester. Admission Requirement(s): Students interested in completing the MCS degree are strongly encouraged to complete the admissions requirements within the first semester of course work.
- Applicants to the graduate programs must have been awarded (or about to be awarded) a 4-year bachelors degree equivalent to that granted by the University of Illinois.
- The GPA for the last 45 - 60 semester-hours (junior and senior years) of undergraduate study must correspond to a "B" or 3.0/4.0 or higher (international GPAs are systematically converted). If an applicant also holds a graduate degree, the GPA for that degree must also be at least a "B". This represents the minimum GPA required by the Graduate College of this university. Note: the average GPA of those applicants recommended for admission by the department is much higher (3.7/4.0) than the minimum requirements.
- Applicants who do not hold a bachelor in computer science must have sufficient background in computer programming, algorithms and data structures, computer organization, and theory of computation (Comparable to CS 125, CS 225, CS 231/232, and CS 173/373 at UIUC). Note: we do not offer undergraduate prerequisite courses online.

Students do not need to be admitted to the University of Illinois graduate program to register and participate in an online course. Up to 12 hours taken prior to being admitted (grade of B or higher), will count toward the degree with departmental approval. Taking courses prior to admission does not guarantee admission to the degree program.Technical Requirement(s): Visit http://online.engineering.illinois.edu/system.htm for details. Program Cost(s):
