Description:
The Office of the State Fire Marshal: Department of Personal Standards and Education approves this Fire Fighter II program that complies with all of the requirements identified by the National Fire Protection Association 1001, Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications. There are twenty-one subject areas divided into three modules. Each module is a stand-alone unit. This online program utilizes streaming video, flash animation, PowerPoint slides, still photos, and text in an asynchronous delivery format. Students are required to complete units within a module in a specific time frame. This involves reading text, reviewing behavioral objectives, viewing multimedia presentations, participating in weekly chat sessions, completing homework assignments and electronically submitting answers to quiz questions.

Admission Requirement(s): Students must meet Illinois Fire Service Institute entrance requirements.

-IBM compatible with 230MHz or better -OR- Macintosh model iMac or G3 or better
-32 MB of memory (RAM)
-50 MB free hard drive space for class work and software;It is estimated that approx. 10 MB of this space will be needed for coursework. The rest will be used by software such as your Web browser and/or word processor.
-28.8 modem connection may be acceptable; however a 56.6 modem connection or better is highly recommended for optimal performance
-4x CD-ROM drive
-Sound card with speakers
-Color monitor supporting at least 256 colors and 800x600 resolution
-Video card capable of displaying in High Color (16 bit) with 4 MB of memory
-Windows 95 or higher for PC. System 7.1 or more recent Mac OS

-IBM compatible or Macintosh PowerPC with 450MHz processor or faster
-128 MB of RAM or more
-100 MB free hard disk space for class work and software. 28.8 modem connection or faster
-12x CD-ROM
-Sound card with speakers
-Color monitor with 1024x768 resolution
-Video card capable of displaying in True Color (32 bit) with 8 MB of memory
-Windows95/98, Windows NT, or Macintosh 8.x operating system

Software Required:
-Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, or another word processing program capable of saving files in RTF (Rich Text Format)
-Internet access software when needed for connection
-Web browser such as Netscape 4.0 or newer or Internet Explorer 4.0 or later capable of supporting frames, Java and JavaScript.
-E-mail software or a Web browser capable of supporting e-mail activity, including sending/receiving attached files.
-QuickTime Movie Player. This is available on CD #3 of the Fire Fighter II On-line Training CD set or by going to the QuickTime site and downloading it for free.
-Shockwave (a Web browser plugin for playing Flash animations). Free download is available at the Macromedia site.
