Dr. Valenta received her doctor of public health degree in health resources management in 1981 from UIC's School of Public Health. She has spent much of her time in developing, teaching, and managing UIC's model curriculum in informatics: The first national federally funded graduate-level specialization in health information management. She has been a consultant for 10 years, a business owner for five years, and a national program director at the American Hospital Association. She is interested in organizational issues of information systems, and Web-based instruction. In November 1999, she completed her Certificate in On-Line Teaching and Learning from California State University, Hayward. She just returned from Washington DC, where she served as an external grant reviewer for the FIPSE Learning Anytime Anywhere Partnerships grant program.
