Linda C. Smith is Professor in the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) where she joined the faculty in 1977. She has been Associate Dean of the School since January 1997, with administrative responsibility for LEEP3, the distance enrollment option for the School's MS program (http://leep.lis.uiuc.edu). Dr. Smith holds a PhD from the School of Information Studies, Syracuse University. Her research interests include information system design, education for library and information science, and the impact of new technologies on reference and information services. Her major teaching responsibilities are reference; scientific, technical, and medical information; and online information systems. She has taught the basic reference course twice to LEEP3 students and has overseen the work of faculty (both full-time and adjunct) teaching more than 25 other courses offered to MS students in library and information science.
