The Curriculum, Technology, and Education Reform (CTER) online Master of Education
program is in its 6th year enjoying continued success.
Recently, several CTER graduates and faculty have been recognized for their
excellent work in educational technology. Jan Hari, Laura Hlinka, Pam Van Walleghen
and Kevin Erlinger, all teachers at Urbana Middle School, and CTER graduates
(Hlinka is a current student) received a grant from the Champaign-Urbana Schools
Foundation to help eighth-graders learn lessons about science and technology
by building towers from toothpicks and knocking them down. Their program incorporates
wireless technology and sensor probes.
Professor Gary Cziko (Educational Psychology), and Professor Sharon Tettegah
(Curriculum & Instruction), both CTER instructors, were recently named
Fellows of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications. Dr. Cziko's
research incorporates internet technology to establish synchronous communications
networks between foreign language learners and native speakers of the languages
they are learning. Dr. Tettegah is developing an online knowledge repository
where educators can dialogue on cultural issues that are related to classroom
practices.
